2nd International Symposium on Sensing and Instrumentation in IoT Era (ISSI 2019)

On August 29-30, the 2nd International Symposium on Sensing and Instrumentation in IoT Era (ISSI 2019) was held in Lisbon, Portugal. The symposium was organized by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society, ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Instituto de Telecomunicações, and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU). Professor Yongsheng Yang (chairman of the symposium and dean of Institute of Logistics Science and Engineering of SMU), Professor Yingen Ge (dean of College of Transport & Communications of SMU), and seven students from Institute of Logistics Science and Engineering attended the conference. The students have been enrolled in the dual-degree joint training program between SMU and ISCTE.

Scholars from Portugal, Spain, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Brazil, Romania, Russia, and China attended the event, where they had exchanges and discussions on the concept, development, effectiveness evaluation and implementation of IoT systems, and innovative combination of sensors and instruments to improve the efficiency and quality of different processes. The fruitful discussions fulfilled the organizers’ aim to arrange an outstanding scientific and educational event to promote the dissemination and exchanges of skills and knowledge among the developers and researchers in the fields of sensing, instrumentation and intelligent systems in the IoT Era.

During the conference, Professor Yingen Ge was invited to give a report titled “A Review of the Promotion of Shore Power as an Option to Reduce Shipping Emissions”. Associate Professor Ungurean Ioan, Dr. Xiuwen Fu, and Dr. Haiqing Yao delivered session reports. The event was a great success that enhanced the ties between SMU and its partners, and further promoted the status of the ISSI as an international platform for academic exchanges.
